Converging ideas and genres take form under the well-trained hand of Grace Gilbert. An artist capable of many mediums and styles, her ability range from technical and clever design work to hands on compositions with more traditional media. Her poignant portraiture and astute design work give rise to content consumers.
While her commercial work is flexible, her most recent work from her honours year at Elam School of Fine Arts is instinctive, driven by movement, derived from experience and reaction. The works allows the viewer to find their own way to an understanding - offering, not demanding truths, and welcoming a new experience in their physicality. A thought becomes a mark on canvas or paper. It is complimented by colour, contrast and placement. Constructed to offer, suggest and question an understanding of representation. The concept contained within the works allow us to enter, experience and determine for ourselves what we choose to take from the physical act of Gilbert’s mark making.
